On June 10 of last year, I wrote the article Loving Chris on this blog.
The other day, while I was at WalMart with him, I asked: "When do you plan to get marry, Chris?"
He answered: "Do you mean with your daughter?"
I said: "With anyone you love, not necessarily with my daughter."
He replied: " At the age of 25, I should be ready by then."
"So soon?" I questioned.
"It will be five years from now, five years are a quarter of my present life."
Oh, I did not remember he was that young.
Then, I moved on and asked: "How much are you in love with my daughter?"
"Crazily, crazily in love. We have to see each other everyday. "
Chris commented: "Do not be left alone with Mrs. Tsang, she will asked you all kinds of weird questions?"

Who is luckier?
I received a Himalayan salt lamp from Mary and my son for Christmas.
Chris, my daughter's boyfriend, gave me a rain check as Christmas present. He promised to attend a dharma lecture of my choice with me, and write an article for me to put in this blog, that is the rain check.
Actually, he has attended Ajahn Brahm's dharma lecture with me as my birthday present back in July. And when Master Haiyun was here in November for dharma lecture, I asked Chris to attend with me as my 2008 Chrismas present. However, he was caught up by some school works and were not able to attend.
Out of the love for my daughter, Chris has to listen to lectures that otherwise he would never dare to be bothered with. Fortunately, he enjoyed the lecture. (I have to make sure the lecture suits his taste).
So who is luckier, Chris, my daughter or me? Hopefully we are all winners...

Reality
Last night, while I was showing my friends the way to the door, we met Chris in the dinning room.
He asked politely: “Mrs. T., is there anything you like me to do for you?”
“Disappear!” I answered in a very heart warming way.
My friend was shocked by my reply and looked dismay. Seeing her complexion, I explained: “I meant to perform the magic of disappearing, doing the impossible.” To me, I was joking around with Chris, and that was not even an insider joke.
Noticing that my friend has misunderstood me, I asked Chris if he knew I was joking with him. He smiled back: “Of course!”
The same words and tune spoken by the same person, different people will take it differently.
Imagine how each person perceives things with numerous viewpoints and attitudes.
What is reality then? Whose reality are we talking about? Which is the authentic one, yours or mine?

Missing
Yesterday, Chris and my daughter went out of town for a few days.
On their way out, Chris said to me: “Mrs. T., I am going to miss you.” “I am not a Buddhist, so I can miss you, right?” How sweet!
I replied: “Sure, you could miss me even if you were a Buddhist.”
He asked: “You never miss anyone, so I assume Buddhist is not supposed to be attached to or to miss anyone?”
I said: “For a true Buddhist you CAN do anything. The key is HOW you do it, the motivation or aspiration, the know-how and the consequence.”
Yes, I hardly miss anyone physically, but I will miss their “inner-spirits or essence”. Last week, I missed Steven’s love for Huayen. His passion, enthusiasm and perseverance for Huayen are very hard to come by. Too bad that passion is temporarily missing!

Loving Chris
Chris is my daughter’s boyfriend. He has been dating my daughter for more than one year. I have promised him that I would write an article about him for a while but I did not yet have the chance to do so. He wants me to write something about him so that he can tell how I feel about him.
On my birthday he wrote the following note to me:
Chris, welcome you to our family. You may not notice but you are part of our family already…
One day when I have more time, I will write the article that I promise you...

On my birthday he wrote the following note to me:
Ms. T, I hope you like your new gifts. You don’t know how much your children (and I) love you. I‘d like to take this time to just say thank you. Your hospitality and kindness has made me really like your family. Your good qualities were clearly passed on to your kids. Thank you for accepting me and letting me date your wonderful daughter.
Love,
Chris
From the note that Chris has written, one can tell what kind of person he is.
I like the fact that Chris loves my family and every one in my family loves Chris.
I am rather traditional; I believe when two persons get married, they are not only marrying to each other but to both sides of the families as well. I am always very glad that my parents and my in-laws get along really well. I have a large family with very close sibling bondage, so does my husband’s side of the family. I wish that this tradition can be kept on.
Love,
Chris
