The baby boomers generation is always labeled as the "sandwich generation", sandwiched by the necessity to take extensive care of our parents and our kids.
If we look at it from another angle, we are the fortune generation, having the ability and the resources to be the sandwiched.
Let's take good care of our parents as the chance to repay them is getting shorter and shorter.
Let's take good care of our kids, but not over-spoil them. Do not over consumer or expense at the cost of the future generation.
As Buddha always taught, be moderate...
